  1. Hi everyone! Donīt know why but i can never put subtitles working ok in dvdmaestro with pal movies. With ntsc movies subs are ok no problems, synchronized and complete but with pal movies when i convert it to dvdmaestro and then import it, the subs are never synchronized, they end way before the film ends. Can anyone explain me how to do it please. I dont have any trouble when subs are in 23,976, but when subs are in 25 fps the problems begin Thanks in advance for all the help!

I am guessing that the subtitles you use are timed for a different frame rate than what the movie is.

Since you mention that the subtitles end before the film ends, this means that the subtitles "run" faster than the film, i.e. the film is at 23.976 fps and the subtitles are timed for 25fps.

Use subtitle workshop, load the .srt file, and then the movie (either avi or mpg).

Hitting play allows you to preview the playback and sync.

If the .srt file was timed for 25fps and the film is 23.976, then select 25fps in the source selector and 23.976 fps in the target. The timings are automatically adjusted.

Save the .srt file and you are done.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

  3. Thanks for the reply SaSi but i'm afraid that is not my problem. The film is 25 fps and so are the respective subtitles, i'm sure of this cause the subs are synchronized with the film. Let me try to describe how i do it so you can understand me better... EXAMPLE ---> The divx is 23,976 and so are the subs, when i encode it to mpeg2(DVD) it goes to 29,970, the subs are in subrip format (.srt), i convert the subs from 23,976 to 29,970 subrip, then to .ssa 29,970 and then with maestrosbt i convert it to 30 fps and voilá, perfectly synchronized with the mpeg2(dvd), i just have to author it and it is done. How do i do this procedure but with 25fps subtitles??? Thanks in advance!

I am almost certain that the problem is caused by a discrepancy between the timebase of video and subtitles.

When authoring a DVD with PAL video, you need to tell DVD Maestro to create a PAL project. This will ensure the timings are all on 25fps.

You mentioned that you are certain the subtitles and movie are both timed at 25fps. How did you verify this? Is the sync loss between the video and subs only? Is the audio still in sync with the video?
