  1. Hi,

I am reasonably new to this but have researched the "how to's" and forums thoroughly without success so here is my problem:

I am converting an AVI file to VCD with a hope that it will play on my DVD player. I am using the tools reccommended on this site (G-Spot, Virtualdub, TMPGEnc and VCDEasy) and have been following the guide written by Sefi, I have checked codecs, made WAV files for audio, all fine. I have used TMPGEnc to convert the video file but when I come to open the file in VCDEasy it is not recognised and although a file has been made it is clearly not a video file of any type.

Please let me know if you have any specific queries otherwise I appreciate your suggestions!

What is the file extension of the file ouputted by TMPGEnc?

  3. Grimey,

Thank you for your reply, I have managed to open the file in VCDEasy that was output by TMPGEnc. I have attemped to burn the .mpg file and although the burn appeared to be successful it would not play on my standalone Philips DVD 623 or in my laptop (the CD was showing as blank!)

    Any takers?

I'm hazarding a guess here, (so don't be offended, I've done this myself!) but when you first install VCDEasy, Main Screen > CDWriter Section is set to 'Simulate'. It's has to be set to 'burn'.

  5. Ah, good point. I have not checked that, I'm assuming if simulate is checked then VCDEasy will not burn but just check that is file is ok to burn?

    Thanx again!

Yes, that's right. VCDEasy gives you no indication that the burn is simulated - It goes through just like a normal burn. I was flumoxed till I suddenly viewed that little tick in the simulate box.
