  1. Hi,

We're getting a new 30" LCD TV soon and while the guy is here installing it I would like to hook up our computer to it as well. What do I need to set up the computer to act as a PVR for time-shifting and recording to HDD?

Do I need a TV tuner card, or can I just feed the video signal straight into a capture card or something?

Sorry, not to sure on all of this so need your help and recommendations on products etc.

    Cheers

    Roly

  2. You'll need a video capture card/TV Tuner Card, A large capacity HD I would get at least 100gig. I use the Ulead Winfast TV Card and it works just fine. you also need a decent video card that will have the appropriate adapter for the TV if it has one. My Video card came with all teh adapters so it should be fine. I use the S-Video out from the card. A sound card to go to the TV or stereo. Unless you buy a surround sound setup for the computer.

Other than that you don't need much.

You could also use a DV bridge like the Canopus ADVC-100 or 1394 to connect between the two. I've been looking for a bridge like that with both in and out in each direction so that I can record from or play to the entertainment system without having to switch cables around.
