  1. doing the finishing touches on my dvd reel, everything is setup, all done in dvd-lab. major problem - everytime you select something and a new screen/audio track plays (a menu/film/slideshow/whatever), there is a super annoying POP at the beginning.

i re-encoded a couple films to start later in the file to get rid of pre-film countdowns and noticed it's gone from these 2, so it seems to be just the sound of the .wav/pcm file starting, but there's no way to re-encode the menus to start later.

please help, how do i get rid of this stupid thing. this is the only thing holding me up from being able to send this out.

what app did you use to edit your menu media?

sometimes when you cut a wav file in a bad spot it will pop when it loops. make sure all of your audio starts and ends on the zero crossing. or put a very short fade in and out on the first and last few milisecs of sound.
re save your menu media and pop those into your authoring app

try it using a different player or sound setup. my old sound reciever used to do that.

  4. this disc is not for my personal enjoyment, this is like the same thing as a resume so i can't just play it on a different player

i built the menus in dvd-lab, i'm not hugely skilled as far as authoring, i pretty much just figured out the basics of dvd-lab and used designs from photoshop. i do think its the sound of the audio file starting or stopping.

how can i edit the audio to start slightly later on menus & slideshows? i know i can just re-encode the films to start later.

ok i assume that the pops are occuring in your authoring app. like the video and audio playing in the background of your chapter select page.
it sounds like you are saying that when you navigate from one menu item to another ie main menu-->chapter select that there is a pop during the transition.
    is this your problem ?

  6. correct

there are several menus on the disc as well as several films and a few slideshows

EVERYTHING HAS AUDIO and the pop occurs JUST as the next selected screen/menu/slideshow/etc. pops up (including just as the first menu is popping up when putting the dvd in)

and i had to get rid of the very beginning (.1-15 seconds worth) of footage/audio of 5 of the 6 films on here (for reasons of cutting out extraneous countdowns, etc., not related to this) and NONE of those 5 have pops. the one that wasn't cut does.

i think it has something to do with the way the audio is queued into starting

thanx for taking the time, please help if you can.

ok when you say 5 of the 6 films
you are referring to the actual dvd media, not the menu media?

if i understand you correctly, you need to edit the media you are using for your menus. either a sound editing app or a sound/video app
i like vegas5 and sound forge
load your menu media and fade it in and out by a few milisecs. also make sure all of your audio is in the same frequency and bit rate. don't use an mp3 on one page and a wav on another.
i like to render all of my menu media in dv with 48 kHz sound and let the authoring app convert.

  9. I've pop noises issues on alot of my clips i've made over time. And the only sure way I was able to clear them out was to like re-cut in the begining frames over again then listen. But, odd enough also? as stated above them darn noises could still be heard & not heard while using different wares or players
Also as to fade in? alot of times if the noise is not completely cut out & removed? they still can be noticed with fade ins, especially if the vol. level is NOT low & long enough to pass over the noise, or pop in your case. So GL.
