ok first of all i bought this barebone kit from www.tigerdirect.com to play around with. It came with the case, motherboard -socket A, cd-rom drive, keyboard mouse and speakers. I already had a HDD and some DDR RAM. so i put the thing together......like this........I put the HDD in on master, i put the ram in properly.. i put the cpu in and the fan in properly and i plugged everything up. the only problem is when i turn the computer on the fan spins and HDD spins so i know its getting power but nothing is showing up on screen. the only thing i can think off is i got the wrong cpu. this is the exact cpu i got. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=495330. Any ideas i would appreciate since im stuck right now. Thanks, Scott

I need more info than just the cpu. What motherboard are you using? What ram are you using? Were you using an antistatic wristband? Were you properly grounded. If not, you might have fried something. The ram might not work with the motherboard. The motherboard might be defective. The power supply might be bad.
Do you see what I am getting at? Just the cpu info is not helpful. -
ok YES i believe i grounded myself out pretty good, i worked on a kitchen table and no carpet or anything and i have 256 DDR SDRAM, and i dont have a video card in it.
motherboard im using..... http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=50369&sku=S450-2031 -
Oh yeah the powersupply isnt bad cause then the fan wouldnt run or the HDD so im still clueless

What bus speed is your DDR RAM?
And did you hook-up the case speaker to your motherboard? The speaker gives what are called POST beeps if there are any POST hardware errors. If there is an error, you will get a beep in a specific pattern... -
I dont even have a clue as to what my ram is ...i bought it so long ago its not funny and what kind of patten of beeps should i be listening 2?

If you don't know your DDR RAM's bus speed, you've got problems. The bus speed has to match at least the minimum bus speed your motherboard runs. In your case, you have a VIA KT400 Northbridge, which means your DDR RAM has to be able to run at a bus speed of 266 or 333 MHz.
You also have to make sure your processor's FSB matches the FSB setting on your motherboard. Your processor has a Thoroughbred core, so you need to set your motherboard's FSB at 266 MHz.
The RAM is your sticking point. If you don't know the MHz of the RAM and it's not capable of 266MHz, your board won't boot. However, because you're not getting ANY video, I suspect your FSB isn't set to match your processor. -
Indo,
The reason he has no video, is because he doesn't have a video card in the system. -
Not sure if these links will help.

You could look on the ram stick itself. Alot of times, it will say on the board.

Do you get the BIOS screen on the monitor?
Did you change any jumpers on the motherboard from what it originally shipped with? Usually any jumpers are preset if the processor is shipped with the motherboard in a barebones kit.
Back before jumperless MBs, I would say the jumpers are set wrong if it wont post with just the processor. If it does post but doesn't once it's installed in the case, I would look for a MB short or grounding problem -

You originally only described the cpu with no other details.
I was originally trying to help. The first thing to do is always eliminate the obvious. You said you had no graphics card. That is what prompted me to say that was why you had no output in the first place. You made an erroneous statement to begin with.
I have heard lots of stuff like a persons computer would not come on when the power was off in their apartment, and a persons internet connection not working because his phone was disconnected.
You do have a graphics card. If you did not have one, you would not be able to connect your monitor.
How many computers have you built?
I am not the dumbass when you don't even know what your bus speed is or what parts you have.
I unlike you am not going to resort to name calling.
I only build, repair, and troubleshoot computers. What the hell do I know?
