  1. I am attempting to convert some video files I have to finally get them off my hard drive. I have primarily worked with TMPGENC and VirtualDub, and had little problems. I have XVID and DIVX codecs installed.

TMPGENC nor VirtualDub will open the files in question. These files will not play in any program except PowerDVD. They have a mpg extension, but I cannot determine which codec they stem from. GSpot, avicodec, and video tool box can not determine which file type they are.

Can anyone give me some suggestions as to something I could try?

    Thanx
