  1. I've beeen backing up DVD's for quite sometime now and once in awhile I get the "data verification failed" message when burning with nero. I figure this is because I've been using the computer while burning. So I start the whole backing up process all over again, compressing and burning the dvd thinking it will work because I haven't been on my computer during this porcess and thus not using its memory (I'm not sure if this even matters). The same thing occurs. What does data verification exaclty mean and does that utlimatly mean that the DVD will not end up working on DVD players? am I making any sense?

    Thanks

If verification fails you don't need to re-compress or re-encode. What you record is already (is it?) in a folder on disk. You just need to replace the disk and hit burn once more.

When verification fails, Nero shows what failed. Possible causes are that a file is different on DVD compared to the Hard disk copy, or a file is inaccesible.

If this repeats itself, then you should either suspect the media or the recorder.

You could, perhaps, try burning this media at a lower speed (e.g. 2x instead of 4x, or 1x instead of 2x).
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

  3. It worked! Burning at 2X seems to have fixed the problem.

    Thanks
