  1. Hi guys! I copy something in a R+DVD disc with a DVD Recorder and have not finalized it. Can I delete the recorded title/program before finalizing? It seems impossible to delete the recorded title/program from the R+DVD regardless of already finalized or not because the edit title option is disabled. I know the recorded program can be deleted from a RW DVD at any time. Please help me to confirm whether the recorded title/program can be deleted from the R+DVD disc before finalizing. Thanks.

You can only erase Rewriteable disks. You can not erase a part or any part of the dvd+r, A DVD(+/-)RW is not like a CDRW.
When it sounds too good to be true, it usually is!!

But I have not finalized it but only completion of the copy. How do your guys to correct the mistake if you made some copy wrong during copying the program to the DVD+R? No way and have to recopy it using a new DVD+R disc or do what else???

Interesting question is why the title can be renamed but the title cannot be deleted before the finalization of copying to the DVD+R. Do you know why?

I'd be interested to know what kind of machine it is myself. I can delete anything I want on an un-finalised +r on my Philips.

Are you saying you regain the space on the DVD+R disc after deleting the recording?

On my LiteOn LVW-5001, I can delete material on an un-finalized DVD+R, but I don't get that space back.

No....you can't get the space back....but if it is offensive material (like a commercial) it is gone.

    edit:
OK....NOW I get it. He made it sound like he couldn't "delete" a title on an unfinalised disc. I had to read both of his posts several times to understand what his goal was....NEVER MIND...

  10. When the title is deleted, the contents of this title is also deleted, at least it is the case in the DVD RW and the recording remaining time will increase.

Rowman, you said you can delete material on an un-finalized DVD+R. After you deleted it, can you still see the title or anything that you deleted from the title page, after loading the disc?

That's pretty much the case with all recorders (whether + or -):

RW discs are "eraseable", therefore they can reclaim the unused space (although it may not be optimized/contiguous anymore, which could be bad)

R discs are NOT eraseable, so if you delete something, all you're really doing is making that segment a "No Man's Land" on the disc. Space is still used up, but it doesn't show as a file or menu selection. (Kinda like having a smaller disc)

    Of course, YRMV... (Recorder)

  13. My problem is the delete option is not available at all in the title edit option when recording the program in the DVD+R regardless of finalized or not. So, once I found some recording errors such as recording the wrong program during the recording, I am unable to correct it but have to throw the disc away and re-record it in the new DVD+R. It seems that recording program in the DVD+R cannot make any mistakes from the beginning because it is not correctable once the recording starts.

    how do you
    finalize
a dvdr? are you using a standalone writer, or is it in your PC setup? thanks.

  15. Compiler,

It might help to give the make and model of your DVD recorder. My LiteOn LVW-5001 clearly has an ERASE option on the bottom of the Title Edit screen for unfinalized DVD+Rs.

Yep....you gotta be careful with Recorders. Even with an RW disc...you really don't get useable space back unless the part you delete is last on the disc. They don't store data like a Minidisc...
