Is there a way to set the divx codex to do a 2 pass encode without having to go back to set it up for nth pass. IE Do a 2 pass encode in one step.

    Thanks Barrybear

  2. Use Gordian Knot as your encoder. You can do up to seven passes in one shot. Here is a guide to using Gordian Knot:

If you find this a little daunting (as I did when I first used it), you may want to give AutoGK a try. This will also allow multiple passes with only one setup.

    Hope this helps,

Thanks so much for the reply.

I am using Virtualdub to edit out the adverts of an avi file and converting to divx in one go. This is why I would like to be able to set the codec up to do just 2 passes.

  4. Use the Batch mode in Vdub.

Set your first pass parameters in divx codec, then in vdub select Save As AVi, give a name to the file and check the box "Don't run this job now; add it to job scontrol so I can run it in batch mode".

Set the parameters sfor the nth pass and do the same as above.

When ready, go to File->Job Control. In the new windows click on the "start" button.

  5. Just to add to what cd090580 said, when you are in the Job Control window if you select Options-> Shut Down When Finished (or something like that) the computer will power down when Vdub is finished encoding. Useful if you set up a couple of passes and let it run while you sleep.

Also, you can set up more than one movie at a time, just make sure each movie (both passes) are done together.
    EX:

    movie 1 Pass 1
    movie 1 Pass 2
    movie 2 Pass 1
    movie 2 Pass 2
    etc.
    etc.

Very useful for a marathon encoding cycle (if you are going to be away for the weekend) or if you backup something like a TV series.
