dvd+r playing problems

i normally use dvd-r, and they play fine on my Apex 703.

about 5 months ago, i burned a dvd+r ricoh disc that game with my lite-on 411s. i used to bitsetting to DVD-ROM, and it did not play in my apex. i burned the dvd+r at 4x.

then today, my mom got me a 25 pack of TDK 4x dvd+r.

before opening it, i tried the 5 month old dvd+r in the apex, NOW it played! it's even scratched up everywhere. it played perfectly.

now i decided to open the TDK 4x dvd+R, i burned it at 4x with the dvd-rom setting, and it didnt play in my apex. then i burned another dvd+r, at 2.4x with dvd-rom, it didnt play either. but when i put the disc in, the tv goes black, and nothing happens unless i press the "menu" or "title" button on the dvd remote, it goes to the dvd menu!. now i can watch.

one question, why doesnt the disc play normally? i did a backup of butterfly effect theatrical (it was a dvd-5, so i used dvd decryptor ISO READ/ISO WRITE).

oh yeah, the tdk ID of the dvd+r are the EXACT same as the 5 month old ricoh disc. (RICOHJPN-R01-02)
