  1. I recently had an AMD Athlon 2200XP in my computer. I had the 166S ripping in just under 20 minutes. I just updated my processor to a P4 3.0 Ghz. Now when I try to rip it takes 50 min!! I have the latest firmwares and DMA is enabled any ideas?

  2. Go here:

    http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html

and read the instructions carefully and get the hacked firmware that will increase the speed of a read. My drive reads a full DVD9 in 11 minutes.
Still a few bugs in the system...

  9. I installed the 166S.DS1C.patched-rs16xR_16xRW_10xDVD9 firmware. Looked at my secondary IDE, it says DMA if available but under current it had PIO. And I cannot chage this, any ideas?

  10. ok I figured it out... turns out what I needed to do was uninstall my secondary IDE. Then restart. After that the current transfer mode was set to Ultra DMA. Thanks for the help all.

After few unsuccesful UDMA attempts Win XP will downdrade permanently IDE channel to PIO (standard feature). What you did was right on the money. The only way to reset to default is to uninstall and reboot.

  12. The hacked firmware only improves reading/ripping speeds for dvd r/rw discs and not commerical pressed discs which i think he is probably talking about, right?

Not quite. The latest firmware added within the last couple of weeks HAS improved the read speed of commercial discs.
