  1. Hi All,
My CD Burner and DVD Reader each went out in the last few weeks and i need to replace both. I was thinking of getting a single combo drive if i can find a nice one.

I already have a DVD Writer, so i just need a DVD Reader and CD Burner combo.

I was hoping to find one that did very good audio DAE, and able to read a wide variety of copy protections and was fast at DVD Ripping, any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    PLEASE READ
A few questions for any people who are nice enough to replay.

    1. What speed can you rip a DVD at (DVD9 and DVD-R)

    2. What speed can you rip an audio CD at using a secure extractor such as EAC

    3. What protection schemes can your drive read (As reported in Clone or Alcohol)

Im not really looking for a generic recommendation or generic drive, but something that has pretty good reading performance as this will be my primary reading drive

    Thanks ahead of time

I've been using a Lite-On and a Toshiba with good results for the last year or so - no problems with either.

I'd search on pricegrabber or pricewatch and look for the best deal. Stay away from low-end drives and you should be okay.

  3. I bought a Maddog Peripherals CDRW / DVDROM for $29.00 after rebate (still waiting on rebate though)

Good drive... I've burnt a few Audio CD's and it screamed at around 24 to 30x rate on good cd's
