DVD2ONE wrong file size

I've searched this forum for post on "last Samurai" and didn't find an answer for my problem. I used DVDDecrypter to rip it, then DVD2ONE to compress it. When I tried to burn it in Nero, it rejects the video saying there is not sufficent space on my DVD+r, or DVD+RW disk. Nero shows 4482 MB, and DVD2ONE always targets 4472MB as the file size,... and of course there is no overburn for DVD disks. I've tried several times and 3 versions of DVD2ONE, same results.

I pulled the last vob file into VideoStudio 7.0 by changing it to .mpg and edited out the credits, but when I put it back to a .vob file and merged it with the others, Nero would not burn it because of some vob error, and the final file size was not in 2k increments.

What is an easy way to edit out the credits. I used to use IFO edit for things like this but not sure that will work. VideoStudio does a good job of editing out what I want to eliminate and then saves a good .mpg, but it somehow does not match the other info and fails.

I've used DVDDcrypter and DVD2ONE about 50+ times and never had a problem. I've also used VideoStudio to create, edit, author, and burn about 10 full length DVD's,... after a long learning period,... and that all works fine.

Hope someone has a suggestion.

I did Last Samuria with DVD2ONE without any problem. Try running it thru DVD2ONE at 4400MB's,see it that brings the size down to 4.37GB's
Are you saving more than one audio stream?
Try demuxing the last vob with VOBEDIT into cells. The end credits are often the last cell. Delete that last cell and merge the remaining cells back into one vob.

I had the problem with only one backup I did with DVD2One, some episode disc... full 8Gb+. Every other time it's been spot on. I just decreased the size to 4450 and it worked fine.
FWIW, I've always used 4470 to give it some breathing room.

Every time you mess with a vob file, you can't use the same ifo files to burn.
You have to either:
1. Create a whole new sets of ifo's.
2. Use IFOEdit to correct the sectors of the new vob files.

Method 1 will wipe out the menu, and method 2 might not work 100%...

I had never used DVD2One, but if you wanted to removed extras and other unwanted files, try Instant Copy 8, excellent tool to compress disc to under 70% in high quality mode.

Thnaks for the suggestion. I'll try the 4450 MB limit first and see if that works. I only used the basic movie and one 6 ch sound track. I didn't include any subtitles the first time, but on this pass I will include the english since there are lots of scenes where the Japanese are talking in their language and you need the english to really understand what is going on.

I will also try IFOedit since there are lots of time when I would like to eliminate parts of the movie or credits, etc. and allow more MB for better video quality.

By the way, when I used DVD2ONE and looked at the movie it was great quality. I could not tell the difference from the master,... but I did not blow it up on a large TV screen, nor did I look at single frames and look for pixels. I gave up doing that a long time ago. I've had DVD2ONE from the orginal version and now I'm up to version 130,.. I'm not even sure there isn't a later version.

The thing that bothered me about it this time was that it said it would shrink it to 4472, which is the normal size and always fits on one DVD, but this time it put out 4482. I think there is something inside of The Last Samurai that is causing this. I might send the author a note and see what they say.

I dropped the compression size to 4450 MB and everything worked great.

I'm still wondering about the subtitles. I included the English subtitles, but when the Japanese guys are talking, there is no subtitles,... only when english is spoken. I got to work on that.....

I tried to back up 'Finding Nemo' with the latest version of DVD2ONE 1.50 and had the same result - file size too large to burn. Backed it up with DVDShrink and it was exactly right.

I received a reply from the DVD2ONE about this issue and here is their reply,...

"Sometimes the engine can be a bit off, it comes because dvd2one needs to work with exsisting data instead of making completely new data"

The good thing about all this is that Nero refused to burn the oversize file. Once it was reduced to a valid size,... everything went fine.

I don't know if DVD2One lets you keep any amount of audio/subs

if it does then only remove the obvious ones like French/German etc and leave the rest as they will contain the subs for the Japanese parts

I checked the movie again and I had it right the first time. ONce I selected the English subtitles in DVD2ONE I got all the translation. It turns out that there are scenes where the Emporer is talking in Japanese and he has and interrpreter translate to english,... so there are no subtitles in english for those scenes. Later in the picture, where there are only Japanese in the room talking in Japanese, there are english subtitles. One last point. My DVD player (APEX 1500) was set so all subtitles were turned off. ONce I got them enabled, all subtitles were OK>

heres a quick suggestion, if the file size comes up too big, run it again!
This time just use the condensed version, I have run into this problem
a few times and that was suggested on DVD2Ones forum, it solves the
problem, and the bright side is it only takes a few minutes to do.
