HELP NEEDED WITH NEC 2510A AND 2500A

Hi i have both these drive in my pc, and i'm having a lot of trouble with my pc looking up when i incsert meida (cd/dvd) into either of the drives, and also after i have burnt a dvd the same thing happnes, iabe to restart the pc!!!!!!!!



has anyone got any ideas what is courseing this to happen on the both drives?

A couple things you need to check;
1. If your drives are on the same IDE channel are they jumpered as one master and the other slave?
2. Check and see if you are using DMA.

there are on diffrent channles to each other, and they aare both set to slave as i have hadrdrives on the channels to

DMA=Direct Memory Access
Different drives will use DMA or PIO mode. You want to have your drives use DMA if possible. I'm not sure how to check the settings under XP, but if you do a search on DMA you will find various post that will help you set up DMA. You also may want to change your drives around, i.e. hard drives on one IDE channel and DVDs on the other channel. Not sure what software you are using, but you might want to check and see if you have the ASPI drivers loaded. Again for more info search for ASPI. Sorry I can't be of more help now, but at work and don't have access to the info.

I have a Nec 2500A, with firmware 1.07 (not hacked firmware).

If any burning application (Nero, DVDDecrypter, etc) tries to access the drive while it is in the process of recognizing a blank disk, the PC will freeze.

If I insert a blank, close the drive door, and start Nero BEFORE the drive light goes off, the PC will freeze.

If, after burning a disc with Nero, I want to burn another copy, I have to NOT TOUCH the keyboard or the mouse until the drive light goes off after inserting the next blank.

Yes, DMA is active. Yes, the drive is jumpered as master on IDE channel 2 (no slave). Yes, I was using Microsoft IDE drivers (notice "was", at present trying latest AMD EIDE drivers, no change).

I think this whole mess is due to my dual cpu motherboard, Tyan S2460.

Not a big deal as long as I remember.....
