I use ulead vs7. I can transfer dv from my sony into the program as dv,
or mpeg amd some others. Iam wondering if it is better to transfer as a dv(avi) or straight in as mpeg. thanks

If you intend to edit or adjust it in any way (add titles, colour correct etc) then transfer as DV. What you will get on the disk is bit for bit what you recorded to tape. Once you have finished editing, export it as DVD compliant mpeg.
If, on the other hand, you just want to burn it to disc, you could just capture it as mpeg. If you do this, make sure you use a high bit rate CBR, as multi-pass VBR probably wont be available to you during the capture process.
