I have notices that disabled extras don't show up on my Philips DVP642 player. I don't get the bit maps or slide show, just a Black Screen. Has anyone else had this problem? VOB Blanker works much better (Removes the Dead Air). VOB Blanker needs to be included in Shrink

it may be due to the fact that Recode and DVDShrink keep the original playing time and that's why you see the black screen

what happens if you press Title menu when you select something that is removed?

you can fix this but it may not be as easy for someone who is unexperienced in playing with DVD files

If you select an extra from the Menu it just starts playing Black frames where the extra once was. If you take out previews before the movie starts you get the same thing. You can go to the menu and get the movie to play or play extras that were not removed. Vob Banker is the way to go, unless you know of something better?

    Thanks!

I know of other things but as to whether they are better or not depends on the users knowledge, the exact requirements for the backup, how lazy they are and probably how cheapskate they are so that's why there is no best as everyone's opinion is different

Ifoedit, free but requires some knowledge to strip stuff and modify a few things

DVDStripper / MenuModder, free but takes ages and relies on Ifoedit but allows disabling of menu buttons

Menuedit, not free but allows you to replace cells with blanks and also do a lot more with menu buttons. Also sometimes uses Ifoedit to update IFO's

Titlesetblanker, free but I think it just blanks titlesets (not sure)

Vobblanker, free but I'm not sure if it does Menu VTS

DVDRemake, not free but allows cell replacement along with quite a few more authoring possibilities if you have the knowledge depending on the version you get

PGCEdit, free not sure if this allows stripping but requires a bit of DVD structural knowledge and also allows authoring possibities with no preview

CloneDVD, not free but does replace crap but allows no editing of menus that can contain warnings, intro's etc

    Intervideo DVDCopy, same as CloneDVD

DVDShrink, allows replacement of titles/menus but keeps original playback time

there's probably more but I can't recall them as I don't use them and if you click the links then you will get more information on each tool

If I was given then choice I would use a mix of them which is DVDShrink along with Ifoedit, PGCEdit, Vobblanker &Titlesetblanker to get exactly what I want but I don't think a newbie would enjoy the same route and may use one of the pay for programs instead

  5. as mentioned above, I find Clone DVD useful for blanking individual extras, as it doesn't keep the original playing time (it goes straight back to the menu when played) unlike the new dvd shrink, giving you more room for whatever is left to shrink. You gotta make sure you change the output size to custom and enter a size that will output it at 100% with clone dvd. It wont do parts of a menu unfortunately and only replaces with a 1 sec (or so) black image.

can I ask a couple of questions about CloneDVD as a few people mention it a few times

Is it all or nothing regarding menu removal with CloneDVD still?
does CloneDVD offer variable compression now or is still constant across the board?

I'm just going on last I knew so go easy

most DVD's extras won't take up that much room if you remove the crap anyway with DVDShrink

example, 2GB of extras video probably equates to 60-70mb of blank which in turn takes 1.8% of the DVD space from 3800MB Video. This 1.8% difference will be more than made up by the fact that DVDShrinks compression engine is apparently better now

If menu's in CloneDVD are all or nothing then some language menu's can also waste space and a lot more than DVDShrink would

If people use CloneDVD's compression and it's across the board still then this has a big effect on the movie quality. Most users normally take from the menu/extras to give to the main feature

looking at the overall output I know which one I would use if I wanted the best results only using those 2 programs

@Blueboyec, titlesetblanker works just fine if you want to blitz everything in the titleset

    here are some replacements here
    http://posunplugged.com/clips_body.html

and there's a few at http://www.dvdshrink.info/title_replacements.php but they have DVDShrink in most of them
