I use Nero to burn with my Pioneer 106 (firmware 108) and 107(firmware 118) and I'm wondering if it hurts to overburn 2 minutes to a cdr? When I get ready to overburn I get a screen saying you may have errors at the end of the disc, but more importantly you may damage your writer. So is this safe with my Pioneers and if yes, how much can you actually overburn? Thanks!

Thanks guys I tried to overburn but Nero wouldn't let me even though there is a setting in Preferences to allow it. I got a failed burning message, so I just deleted a song since I didn't really want to download any new software. I didn't think it was a big deal to overburn 1:58 minutes but I guess in my case it was.

    Three things required:
    A burner that supports overburning(Pioneer 106?)
    Software that supports overburning(Nero does)
CDR that are 800 or 870MB's,not standard 700MB

A 700 minute cd can overburn up to 28mb over, just has to be good quality.

Just for the record, 28MB overburn as stated by the previous poster equates to 3min 11sec 11frm of extra time on a 80min CD-R. I have never seen any 80min CD-R that will take that much of an overburn. That's not to say they don't exist, but I've certainly never seen one and I overburn every single disc I write.

In my experience the most you can expect to get is around 2:30 extra, but most are ~ 1:30 & 2:00 extra. Nero has a nice little application called CD-DVD Speed in the Nero Toolkit which has an overburning test in it. It will simulate an overburn on a CD-R and tell you *exactly* the real capacity of your blank disc in both MB and time, so you can be certain whether what you want to burn will fit or not.

I'm using cheap TDK (CMC) 80 minute cd-r (807MB for audio) so maybe that's why I couldn't get it to work, I'll have to get some ty's and try them. I'm also not sure how good a job the Pioneers do with overburning, so could be the media or burners, I don't know.

    mccoady,

I've overburned up to 81:29 on 80 minute CD-R's with no problems.
The only time I ran into a problem was with TDK's which is what you said you're using. It would overburn, but the last song would have gaps and skipping. Pretty strange is that I have some old TDK 16X CD-R's which overburn just fine.

A program I've used the last couple of years which in my humble opinion, blows away any other product in its price range is Feurio. You can download a non-crippled trial version. All the features are intact. It rocks.
