  1. I authored the same video clips in both TMPGE and ULead Workshop 2.0. The 2 video clips are a total of approx 3.6 GB in size then created menus and wrote the DVD in TMPGE with no problems.

In ULead I did the same thing however when you get to the final screen where you wiite the DVD or create the disc folders it showed required space on the DVD 7.0 GB and on the hard drive 10.0 GB.

I can't imagine why the difference or whay ULead is seeing requirements for almost double the actual size. Not sure if I am missing something somewhere in the program or configuration and would appreciate if someone could suggest what I could do to get it down to the size it should be.

There is also a drop down box asking whether you want 60, 90, 120 minute mode. I am not sure what this is being used for as it is my understanding that it does not re-encode the video, nor does it change the size of the requirements no matter where you have it set, so what is it actually for?

    Thank you

I am by no means an expert with Workshop 2.0 but maybe my experience is similar to yours.

Are you using stock template or one that you customized? I ran afoul of using a custom template and not paying attention to the check boxes for "Convert to Disc Template" on the Video & Audio tabs. The size indicated above the Video/Audio/Subtitle tabs for the project was 4GB. Thought I was good to go.

My video wasn't converted because it was less than or equal to the bitrate I set on the template and the data rate (variable) matched my source clips. The template audio setting were for AC3/256 but the source files were PCM Wave.

Only 4 of audio clips were converted to AC3 and the rest of the 12 stayed PCM. Those 4 had the "Convert to Disc Template" checked and grayed out. I had forgotten to resample them to 48000. So I guess it makes sense that they were converted since they didn't comply with the 48000/AC3/256kps on my custom template. I forgot to check those boxes for the clips that didn't get converted to AC3.

Strange but on the screen to burn the project the size was still 4GB but the size of the VOB files in the resulting Video_TS folder was over 6GB.

Sorry to go on so, but I'm trying to relate everything I can remember about the situation. I did redo the project and checked the "Convert to Disc Template" boxes for the audio clips I didn't the first time and got a different result. That final burn screen had 5.1GB required the second time but the final size of the Video_TS folder still bigger (4.5GB) than will fit on disc but I guess I have to re-encode some of the video or change the audio bitrate.

Hope some of this help and you might try this url for a good explanation of "compliance" in Workshop http://www.dmnforums.com/cgi-bin/readwholethread.cgi?forum=ulead_dvd_workshop&post=040...toppostid=2026

Oh, forgot to mention that Worshop retains the files that were converted in my project in the same folder the Audio/Video_TS were created. That folder was names DWS_TS and has a sub-folder CvtTitle. You might want to check the contents of CvtTitle folder if it's still around.

Be sure you have 2.011 legal version (not a hack) and you should be fine. Most "problems" I see are from cracked versions or old versions. NOT IMPLYING ANYTHING, but just have to say it....

You also may have bad source. TDA is a bit more forgiving than it should be, lets in "dirty" files.
