You must have DVD Decryptor set to output to a single file (ie: one long vob, or one long m2v.)

Otherwise, no it shouldn't matter. But if you are going to be working with DVDs or any other type of video it would really be in your best interest to convert to NTFS, if your current os supports it, or to upgrade your os to one that does.

  3. That is correct... you must have NTFS support file sizes larger than 4 gigs

    What OS are your running?

I don't even think you can install WinXP on a Fat32 system. Is c:\ drive the one with your os installed?

If you look in accessories/system tools there might be a fat32->NTFS converter. Otherwise you could just go to my computers, right click on the drive and choose format. Then choose NTFS, but you'll lose everything on the hard drive.

  7. Not sure if you can convert a FAT32 drive to NTFS. I know, when you reformat a drive with W2k or XP it gives you an option.

Go into Computer Management (right click on my computer and pick manage computer) and see if in disk manamgement it gives you an upgrade option.

  11. a. You can install winxp on fat32, And convert to ntfs or if it needs to be available to win98/winme OS's I leave it fat32.

I do this sometimes on a new drive by first using oformat C: /q and then letting the install convert to ntfs. Faster than a full format and safe enough on a new drive. And yes the Microsoft Oformat version of format command will quick format a new never formatted drive as long as it is partitioned.

    b. go to help and just type "convert drive"

    open a command prompt window

on mine it gives the command prompt line of

    convert drive letter: /fs:ntfs

where letter: coule be C: or D: or E: etc.

this is done in a command prompt window AKA the old dos command line

says this woks on fat, or fat32 to convert to ntfs.

What it doesn't say is if it is destructive or non-destructive. My guess is non-destructive as this seems the same thing that it will do on installation on a fat 32 drive when it gives the option to convert to ntfs.

    Hope this helps someone.
    Cheers

Convert is a one way street. You cannot convert back to FAT32. You cannot not use this command on the current drive because the drive must be locked. If you specify the current drive, you are asked if you want the drive converted the next time windows is restarted.

    Steps
    1. In the "Run" box type CMD <enter>
    2. then type in the following command:
C:\convert Drive: /fs:ntfs/v (where Drive is the Drive letter)
v is verbose and displays progress messages.

Using Partition Magic is much simpler, but that's another story.

A conversion from Fat32 to NTFS is non destructive. This shouldn't even affect the Windows 98 install (if you are running dual boot), as this is installed on a separate partition of the drive.

I don't remember what os I had installed at the time but all I did was use the filesystem converter available in the /accessories/system tools folder. It did the conversion on my primary drive without rebooting or anything, it finished and continued operating as normal. Anyway, this isn't an option for him it seems since its not his pc.

So, just ensure that DVD Decryptor is set to split files at .99 gigs. You must have it set to export to one single file, which is why its too large for a Fat32 system.
