Just wondering if all dvd's are the same size or if the copyrighted ones you buy in the store are like 9 gigs? Because i'm seriously getinng pissed with trying to get good quality...
the only luck i've had is when i just burn the movie by itself...
no menus or nothing..
i've tried everything
what about dvd decrypter when you try to burn and its says like "5.7 gigs---disc only contains 4.7 gigs...do you want to continue?"

Have you read any guides? yes most pressed movies are going to be over the 4.37gig mark and will need to be 'shrunk' to fit on a dvd-/+R
-
The actual capacity of a DVD-+R disk is 4.37GB's. Anything over 4.37 will not burn. Dual-layer burners and disks are just becoming available. Disks are hard to find and very expensive.

yes I know all about that...i've read the guides...
it just makes no sense cause my friend has the same burner and he gets awesome quality -

ARGH!
Once a week, twice a week, three times a week, some N00B comes in and says "why are my 4.7GB DVD's only showing up as 4.37Gigs?"
4.37GB = 4.37 X 1024 X 1024 X 1024 = 4,700,000,000 (Roughly)
The MEDIA INDUSTRY long ago gained government approval to refer to a MILLION bytes as a MEGABYTE, and a BILLION bytes as a GIGABYTE.
The rest of us use 1024x1024 as a megabyte, and 1024x1024x1024 as a gigabyte.
See the discrepancy? -

First of all, tell us your stance on what good and bad qualtiy is.
We all have our own limits as to what we can consider "watchable". None of us can really help you if all you say is that you are pissed cause you can't get good quality.
What is wrong with the quality you get now? Is the screen looking fuzzy or blocky? Do the frames skip? Or do you just want perfection that is simpily unacheivable with what is available to you?
Please tell us more about your problem, otherwise people are just gonna ask the same usual questions about media, programs etc.
We need more information to help you out......... -

As far as I am concerned the best transcoder in terms of quality output is DVD2ONE ... though I know some feel that the Pinnacle transcoder (forget the name) is better.
But DVD2ONE is certaintly better than DVDShrink or DVD X Copy if you ask me!

P.S.
DVDFab is a program that can retain 100% quality by splitting the original out over 2 DVD discs if it is too big to fit on a single DVD disc. You might want to look into that as a QUALITY solution if you are not happy with transcoder quality. Also you could re-encode with a real encoder like TMPGEnc Plus or Cinema Craft Encoder but that takes a LONG time and not always needed to get good quality."The eyes are the first thing that you have to destroy ... because they have seen too many bad things" - Lucio Fulci

I always found that silly. Hard drives are the same. Manufacturers advertize capacities in metric mega/gigabyes. A metric of each, technically, would be exactly 1,000,000 or 1,000,000,000 bytes, respectively. Whereas Windows formats and reports the capacity in computer mega/gigabytes (1,048,576 or 1,073,741,824 [1,048,576 * 1024], respectively).
