I am at the moment trying the opposite: to keep warm.

It is winter here in Sydney and so cold.

Anyway, in my summer would to use the room fan to cool me.

I don't need A/C as my place is as so naturally cool or mild all year around due to fact as partly sub-ground level.

I can still be hot due to humidity rather than the heat.
I am a computer and movie addict

A/C is cranking most of the day. We try to keep it a cool 77-78 F in the house. Yeah, you heard me, that really cool. Down to 75-76 is dang near freezing! Fight off that 85-95 stuff outside.

My office has a ceiling fan on high, and then a huge box fan to blow out one door.

77 - 78? That was the best our evaporative cooler (swamp cooler) would do most of the summer, right before we decided to get refrigerated installed. For me, 77 or 78 is too hot to sleep.

Maybe because all my life we've had A/C ...except for when I was a kid and there was one fan downstairs blowing out, and all the windows stayed cracked all night. I never seemed to mind it, so I guess it's just a matter of what you're used to.

How much do you pay in medical insurance premiums and doctors visits and prescription a year?
I lose £1560 a year ($2948) in wage deductions. couldn't tell you how the government spends it (i'm guessing 95% goes on paperwork, redecorating commons, holidays for tony blair and pies for gordon brown. 1% goes on the NHS, 1% on public "transport", 2.5% gets posted to europe and .5% goes for the fire service.) but i also pay £850 ($1606) on car insurance per year. plus a £40 ($75) MOT. so doing 6,000 miles a year costs me $2887, plus any work that needs doing to the car.

Flan, Is that the same as our federal income tax? Or do you have a separate deduction for that?

  7. My central air cost too much to run, so I have a window AC unit and open the windows at night with a big fan upstairs blowing out, which sucks air in downstairs. Works pretty well. It gets over 100 degrees here during the day, but drops to 69-70 at night.

I don't know, is it? (hard work this sometimes!) Deductions are split into National Insurance, and Income Tax.

I usually have my A/C at about 78-80 when I'm home and either off or around 88-90 to avoid temp. peaking while I'm gone. My monthly power bill is aroun $120. 75 is too cold and we have fans and a humidifier going. Almost got a swamp cooler, but wanted it centralized and didn't want to spend the big bucks and have to tear walls out and make it into a big project. Right now my major home project is to change the bath fixtures and work on building a Pinewood Derby track for a Cub Scout group. One of the things I am most happy about for being a Home Owner is that I have "MY OWN SHOWER FIXTURE." It's mine and not anybody elses. It also gives me full reason to go to Home Depot and browse, just for the heck of it. Why? Because I can and I can get ideas and actually act upon them if I feel like it. I can take out a non-load beareing wall if I wanted to and put a toilet and sink in my living room if I felt the heck like it. That's not a bad idea. Lokks like I got a weekend project now.

It's seperate, we have our income tax, and then a seperate payment for national insurance.
