  1. I'm a pro at backing up 'normal' dvd's, but these multiangled movies are a pain!

I'm trying to back up both episodes 1 and 2, but I run into the multi angle problem. I tried searching through the archives, but nothing was found for star wars, nor anything in particular about multi angles, except some people mentioning the using of dvdshrink and decryptor.

I just want a normal movie with only one angle I guess. Is that possible? Any guides to show me how it's done? Advice/tips!?!

    Thanks guys.

  2. When I was learning to use DVD Shrink EP II was the first DVD I tried. i noticed that it had multiple angles. I poped the original into my DVD player and tried changing the angle. All I got was an X in the corner of the screen indicating that that function didn't work. Any one know what the differences are in the angles? When I backed up my EP II disc I just chose one of the angles. Do you wan't to keep menus? If so I don't think it is possible to only use just one anlge, but I may be wrong.
This plan is so bad, it must be one of ours.

DVD Decrypter allows you to select the angle in ifo mode. DVD Shrink gives you that option in re-author mode. Select angle #1. The angles seem to consist of not much more then selecting the language in the opening screen crawl.

  5. When I select angle 1 in dvd decryptor, and after I leave the process go I open DVD shrink and I get the error 'Failed to open vts_07_8.vob'.

I wish it would have worked. I would have made my life alot simpler at this point!

Any suggestions? IFOEDIT? if so, how do I use it to remove angles?

I used DVD2one (full rip with DVDDEcryptor) and backed up 1 & 2 with no problems.

  7. I'm trying dvd2one right now.

Were you able to keep the menus? Which ratio did you select? Custom/automatic? High/low?

It seems like a 'sketchy' program.. i hope it works.

  8. Most importantly, did you keep all 3 angles? or did you select only 1?

This is my issue i'm trying to resolve. I want only angle 1 and the menus. No extras. I can't seem to figure out how to do it though.

Just keep the angles. As mentioned before mostly they just amount to the opening credits, so there is no so much to gain from trying to get rid of them (the only case I found them useful was in Toy Story, where there was a letter which language deppended upon the angle, very usefull for children).
To copy just use Decrypter for ripping to the HD and then CloneDVD2 to do the shrinking and burning (use the "Copy DVD Titles" option and then select the "Preserve Menus" option and the titles you want to keep, in your case the titles of the main movie), the % of shrinking will be calculated by the program.
If you do not have CloneDVD2 you can use DVD Shrink in the Full Backup mode (to preserve the menu), replacing the extras with still pictures or still images, which suites best for you

Any method has worked 100% of the times for me.

For best quality results I usually do a two steps process after ripping:
    1) With Shrink I compress menus to the maximum (I like to keep menus but donīt care about their quality). I also review the extras and decide what to do with them: eliminate (replace by still pictures), keep but donīcare about quality (maximize compression) or I want to keep them (a chose a compression ratio depending on the quality I would like to preserve). In this step I chose "No compression" for the main movie. I also change the target size to something as 8000 MB (in Preferences). And then I back up to the HD.
2)In this stage I change the target size back to DVD 5, and repeat the above process regarding menu and extras, with the main movie now in "Automatic".

  10. Thanks for the help. I just tried it and seemed pretty good! I'll try the 2nd step by seeing if I can decrease the extra/menus even more.

    Thanks

  11. Well it worked out ok, but because the movie has multi-angles, approximately every second chapter I get a icon on the top right hand corner of my tv that displays a 'angle'. I can not remove the feature.

This was the reason why I needed get rid of the angles

    Anyone else?

Like I said, I did a full movie backup with DVD2One (version 140, variable ratio, I chose 5.1 sound only, 1 angle) and ran into none of the above stated problems. Problem is you will have to buy it to find out.
