    Can someone give me some examples of how one would go about authoring a DVD with Motion or animated menus with sounds?

    encode the video with audio to dvd mpeg2.
    add it as a menu in for example tmpgenc dvd author, dvd-lab.

    I do it like baldrick said. My motion backgrounds are really just video files that I make in my editing apps.
