I try to create an avi using ulead media studio 6 and mixing some videos, when I save it stops at exactly 2gb, both in w98 and w2k, saying I have no room (false).
Is this correct? and does anybody know how to bypass it?

What type of AVI (DV type 1 or 2) are you trying to create on what kind of filesystem ? Which codec do you use ?
I'm having no problems under Win2K on NTFS with DV avi Type 1 at any size (some footage > 12 GB). I get the same error as you get but with files > 4GB when using DV Type 2 under 6.0 (with 6.5 no problems at all). -
if this is PAL , then you'll get 7.5 MByte/sec avi.Maybe your disk not not that fast. FYI: some type of avi are restricted to 2GB.

I assume since you are creating an uncompressed avi that you are creating a vfw avi. In that case MSP6, which does not support avi open dml, limits you to 2G.
Dragonsf: MSP6.5 can create a 4G dv type 2 files but it can only read 2G (if it the same as MSP Driector's Cut V6.5 which it is supposed to be). I am working with Ulead to resolve the problem. -
I don't think it's a disk problem, it always stops exactly at 2gb, even in w2k, where I can capture unlimited.
It's a pity I can't go bigger unless compressing directly with media studio, the mpeg seems a lot worse than the one I get by tmpgenc ...
Anyway thanks a lot to everybody !!!

Why don't you compress with MSP60? YOu can get a compression of 6 with Mainconcept's DV codec. You can also split your avi up into 2G segments and frameserve to TMPGEnc. -
I noticed the problem first time yesterday and I used huffy codec, it was just enough (one file got about 1.9gb!), I thought any other codec would result in a loss of quality.
Moreover I don't think I have Mainconcept codec; can you tell me where to get it? and can you tell me how to split the file and frameserve it, or if there's any rough guide about how to do this with media studio? I've seen something around about virtualdub but never about media studio.
Thanks a lot!!! -
You can get a demo of Mainconcept's DV codec at mainconcept.com. I just suggested Mainconcept's but there are others like PicVideo. You have to recompress several times before you see any degradation. You can split up the file with MSP and save each segemnt. Next, you use VitrualDub to frameserve these segments to TMPGEnc making your mpeg file. Look for VirtualDub under Tools at the left. <--- There is also an explanation on how to frameserve.

well, ... at this point I got lost a bit ...
anyway, I'll try and see what happens, it's a pity a software like this (I found it quite easy and powerful for my home use) has this big limitation.
You were very kind, thanks a lot! -

Writing files > 4 GB with 6.5 is no problem as stated, only 6.0 doesnt't like it. And yes, both can only read up to 2GB, that's why I have to split the file with VirtualDub. -

MSP V6.5 is speced to support open dml avi and should be able to read 4G as well as write. Ulead has been working onit for about a month.

Lamont, you give me hope.I like Mediastudio, but it's a pain and a waste of time and space being bound to this 2GB limit. Carry on please (kicking ULEAD).
