  1. Hi gang, you guys are great - I am learning that there is a lot to DVD+/-R from all of your posts and questions!

I'm baffled by the TDK DVD+R's I got from costco. Printed on the packaging label (in very large letters) is DVD+R. However, in a couple of places on the same label it has the little "RW" logo as well. Oddly the "RW" logo is embossed (prominently) on each of the disks themselves.

Being rather new to DVD burning - one might think that these were REWRITEABLE's (hence the RW logo). Yet, neither my Panasonic E85 DVD Recorder nor my Superdrive equipped iMac (using Toast Titanium 6.05) will "see" these disks as rewriteables (but as DVD+R's as expected)

Anybody know why the RW logo appears on these TDK DVD+R's (and not the TDK DVD-R's)? Is there any cool "tricks" to actually get these to be used as DVD+RW's?

This really got my curiosity flowing, so I had to ask.
    TIA for all your replies.

probably just a manufacturing error. i agree with you that it's odd to have RW embossed on the dvd itself.

You mean there are different kinds at Costco all for the same price? Hopefully, they will have DVD-R right? Maybe I will manage to run into one of you?

I read the other Costco thread and they said some of them got CMC. How can I tell it's a TTG01? Also, they said you need a coupon from the Costco booklet that I never picked up.

I've also noticed that +R disks have an RW on them. What's important, however, is that they say "DVD+R" and not "DVD+RW". Here's a good example:

Sakuya if you read my other post I had said that NO COUPONS ARE NEEDED AT COSTCO. They will give you the discount even if you DON'T HAVE THE COUPON. Anyway COSTCO will be closing in like 9 minutes. The sale ends today. I had posted in that TDK COSTCO thread that the TDK's I got were TTG01. I suggested you go to COSTCO in hawaii kai because that's where I got the TTGO1 media. And you can't tell if it's TTG01 until you open up the spindle and use DVDINFO PRO or DVD IDENTIFIER to find out the media code.

  8. The "RW" you see is part of the DVD+R logo. All +R burners & media (branded, not matte or silver) will have this on them.

Thanks. I bought it an hour ago. I burned the first disc and it worked! Is it okay to write on the top side of the DVD-R with a black Sharpie? I don't want to ruin my disc...

    Edit:
Now that I look at the data side of the disc and compare it to my generic brand, this official one is very smooth, no sharp and faulty edges!

  10. Many people use Sharpies to label their discs, including myself. Some people feel that this is risky due to the volatile nature of the ink, but I've not heard any verifiable acecdotal evidence of Sharpies damaging discs.

  11. Thanks for the replies gang.
But there has got to be a REASON why the DVD+R's have the "RW" logo printed on them (whereas the -R's don't).
I'm not saying that it means they should function as RW's (who knows???), but there's gotta be a reason - just doesn't make much sense (especially when you go and buy a +RW disk and it too has the same RW logo on it).

  12. Go to the link in my previous message. It's simply the logo used by the +R association....
