I riped a vob file from a dvd authored with ulead dvd workshop in order to use it in a new dvd. As UDW does not accept vob files I renamed the vob to mpg and the new mpg file was ok. After authoring the new dvd containing that mpg file I noticed there was an audio sync problem (about 3 secs) that didn't exist in the mpg.
What am I doing wrong?

Hello,
You could try out tmpgenc dvd author. It supports .vob. You could also try this guide:

Your rough vob mpeg name change works mostly ok if it is the first vob, subsequent vobs tend to have audio probs.

Any ideas why the audio sync problems appears after I author the dvd and not in the mpg file? I riped it in one vob (about 2,5 GB). I also tried converting the vob file to mpg with Womble MPEG Video Wizard and the audio problem was more noticable.

frameserve your vob into tmpgenc or mainconcept. it might take longer but you'll be sure to retain audio sync
also DVDarchitect 2.0 accepts vobdrink up....the world's about to end -
None of this makes sense. If you do not re-encode the VOB/MPG (simply re-author), I don't see how it could be possible for the a/v can go out of sync. I use the VOB renaming method all the time... no sync problems. I join the sequenced VOB files and save/rename the new single file at the same time with Simple File Joiner. Are you sure the original VOB isn't out of sync to start with?
Try TMPGEnc DVD Author, too. It is easy and pretty much fool-proof... load your VOB's right in and re-author. -
Thank you for your help! I am sure that both the vob and the mpg (after renaming the vob file) are in perfect sync. I haven't tried TMPGEnc DVD Author. It would be nice though if I could use Ulead dvd workshop as it allows me to create nice menus etc.

why not import the entire dvd in ulead dvd work shop? it is not the same as open a vob. only version 2.0 supports it, check the manual how to import a dvd.
