I was capturing a 54 min show using divx4 codec and virtual dub, my system is a 500MHz celeron with 64megsram and I 40 Gig hard the has 38gigs empty. It was capturing at NTSC resolution and was going fine but all of a sudden I saw that the hard drive was really really busy and the video stopped for a couple of seconds, I assumed that it was because it ran out of space in the area that it was writing to and was trying to find more room, but since I dont have enough memory to hold all of that unsaved video it just dropped all of those frames, because after the drive calmed down the capture was fine,it was when I played it back that I saw the problem at the point where it froze the video stops for about 5 seconds and then starts up fine again only the audio is about 5 seconds ahead of the video!I defragged the drive thinking that it would fox it and it didnt the only way I figure is that by dropping all that data it corrupted the video file. Because before the freeze up the a/v are in perfect sync.
Would using something like partition magic to make an area of the drive a separate drive help since it wouldnt beinterrupted by windows or other things on the drive.
