  1. Just tried out my first encoding session with CCE (via DVD Rebuilder). I never realised till after it had started that setting it to 2 pass VBR in DVD REbuilder actually only does 1 pass in CCE. Anyway, that's not my question. My question is;

    Is the time it takes to encode for each pass equal?

    For example, the film I just encoded took 192 minutes for 1 pass VBR
    If I was to do a 3 pass VBR encode, would it take 3x192 minutes?

    Pretty much.

  3. That's weird. I performed the same task, with 2 pass VBR on a slightly faster machine and it took 212 minutes.

    Actually when you choose 1 pass in cce it does 2 pass,the first pass produces the val file and then the second pass it starts to produce the mpv file.So if you choose 3 pass it will take 4x the amount it does for cbr encoding.So it would take 4x96 minutes to produce your file.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

  5. Hi. I just tried using CCE with Rebuilder also. I noticed the my CPU temp shot up while CCE was doing its thing. Can someone tell me if this is normal?

    yes. encoding shoots your cpu to 100% usage. anywhere between 2 and 10 degrees C is a normal change.

  7. Thanks, flaninacupboard for the reply. My CPU temp is normally around 100F, but while CCE is working and the machine is under a full load it is about 126F. I am worried about damaging the CPU since CCE takes a couple of hours.

    that temperature is nothing to worry about at all. mine will regularly reach 149f on a warm day, and chips today are good up to about 165f.

    I think that rebuilder does not do the encoding passes as it really is. For example when you choose 2 passes it does the vaf and 1 pass. If you choose 4 passes it does the vaf and 3 passes.
