  1. Im looking into buying a capture card to capture on demand shows from comcast digital on demand....anyone know what the best card to get would be? I was hoping just to hook it via the rca's on the back of the cable box and just record it into mpeg2 to burn to dvds.....im new to this so sorry if im missing something.

  2. i have an Osprey-100 from View Cast. It's a good card, I can capture at 352x480 mpeg2 in Mainconcept and burn to DVD with Tmpeg DVD Author. it took me a while to get a good system, but once I did, it's easy as pie. thats probably not the best suggestion, but it's a cheap option.

I am upgrading to an ADVC-100 soon.

  4. A standalone DVD recorder, either with or without a built in hard drive, is a very simple and easy way to do what you are talking about. Prices have dropped quite a bit recently and the MPEG2 recording quality of the newer machines is very good.

AverMedia capture cards are decent and cheap, if you want to do it that way. I got mine for $20 on eBay.

yeah i was thinking about the standalone but $250 is more then im willing to spend and i got an extra comp i could move next to the cable box so that would work better and $20 is perfect lol to ebay i go

  6. Sounds like the right answer for you... happy capturing!

Oh, and download VirtualVCR. It's free and captures AVI formats up to 720x480 NTSC with the AverMedia cards and is easy to use. Does a great job, too. Very few dropped frames, etc.

  8. Mine is called the AverTV Stereo... it has a built-in cable TV tuner, plus RCA and s-video input. Audio is looped through the card to your existing sound card line in (or maybe the other way around, I don't recall exactly).

    Here's one:

  10. Looks like the most recent one that sold went for $30, and one a week or so before went for $20. Still a great deal either way... :P
