Hi
What is the best media for burning PS2 games, I have a Messiah chipped PS2, with a new laser, but have had no success with Datawrite disks.
Also which software to use would be appreciated!
Thanks
Neal

Not sure why you posted this on a video help site? Anyway go here you may find the answer >

write at 2x -r media, riteks, accus or Tys or panasonics
2x? You may wonder, yes, use 2x as its best for your ps2 laser.
also search the forums for 'ps2' -
It depends on the model and year your PS/2 came out, On which DVD media to use. Some PS/2 will play both - and + R's but not all will, Mine act a little funny with -R's burnt @ 4X but it loves +R's burnt @ 4X. I use Alcohol or CloneCD to copy DVD and CD games for the PS/2.

Believe it or not, PRINCO and LD01 work pretty well, as the games rarely get past 1-3GB in size. They upchuck a lot on RITEK. PRODISC is great too.

I have a Messiah chipped PS2. I think it's like 2 years old. Maxell Ty DVD-r's work great, never have a problem with those. When I first got a DVD burner a couple of years ago, I had some cheap 1x DVD's, I'm not sure what brand they were, but they would freeze up all the time on the PS2, so then I used 1x BEall's and 1x TDK's and those worked great also. People say DVD+R's will not work in a PS2 so I never tried them for games, but I put in a DVD+R movie and it played alright, so I guess some models will read thoses.
Stick with Maxell DVD-R's and you should be fine. -
Funny..everyone I know whos used Ritek G04 for PS2 games has had no problems. If they did have problems, it was a dirty laser and the backups worked eventually, G03's were pretty bad though. I refuse to put anything in my PS2 but Ritek G04 or Maxells nowadays. Every backup I made on TDK DVD-R's has stopped working, some were made in Japan, some were made in Taiwan..my Ritek's haven't failed me yet.
Smurf usually you seem to know what you're talking about but..how could you recommend anyone use Princo in a PS2? PS2 lasers are prone to dying/failure already, no need to use discs with cheap crappy dye to help the laser along on its inevitable demise. -
I've got a V9 and it reads G04s, Optodiscs, TY, and Lead Data's without any issues. They all booted fine and played through fine. As DeleriumMDK already stated, PS2 lasers for some reason are more prone to failure so I'd suggest you stay away from Princo or any other disc that takes a while to recognize. From my experience, the PS2 seems to have an easier time recongizing stuff burned at 1x as compared to 4x.

I burn my ps2 games with ricohjpn01 @8x and the games boot up right away, burning slower doesnt always help since the write strategy changes for a lower speed might increase errors and lower readability.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
Hi
Yay! success! I used DVD Decrypter again, but lowered the write speed to 1x, both of my games tried worked first time. Me a happy bunny!
2x worked also on Ritek G04 disks.
Thanks to all

i used ricoh disc for my ps2 games. works great. i've used others like cmc, ritek g04, ty, beall, & mxl and they all work great. but recently, those ritek g03 are giving me trouble with my ps2 & xbox. don't know how that happen, kept them away from harm, no nick or scratch on the dvd, all it wants to do is freeze up.

jsut gotta say, a few ppl on a web site i regularly go on burn thewir ps2 games with maxell media. and guess woit?their ps2's arent modded and the burnt discs still work.
They use lite-on DVD writer and as i said, maxell media. I havent tried it myself yet, but maybe theres someone here with maxell media that could?
Cheers.

Impossible. Copying doesn't put the sectors needed for ps2 booting on a disk, which you get with a pressed disk.
Another option for more guaranteed booting is to put a hd in. I put a 4 gig HD in with hdloader & it worked fine. Also a 20 gig. You can get a network adapter for $20 at outpost.com then use some HD you have laying around. Fetch hdloader from the usual special place as you can't buy it anymore & you're all set. Use Winhiip to put a ps2 game on your HD in your pc.
Dont use WD hd if you can avoid it, their power plugs are in another position. -

As for media I only use apple, verbatim, ritek, or disks that ritek or use the same dye under a different brand name. (98% of mine are apple verbatim, and ritek)
Its all personall prefernce to some but the better quality media you use the less stress you'll have on your ps2 laser the longer it lasts basically if you see a no name brand of disks where you can get 100 DVD-r's for $30 I probably wouldnt use them in my ps2 since the lasers are so picky (even though it varies between ps2 version, laser usage, and laser quality if you go with the good stuff you cant go wrong)
*edit
I also forgot to add here is a list of comments on certain media on the PS2
