PSP UMDs uses 128bit encryption!!!!

Well, If you wanna copy a PSP game, FORGET ABOUT IT!
I've just found out that the PSP uses AES 128 bit encryption, F***!
This means copying or otherwise reading CPed UMDs is impossible!!!!!

Fixed encryption on pre-recorded media does not work.

Why?

On the disc you have the ciphertext and a known encryption method.

On the disc OR device you have a known working key.

You have everything already to decrypt the disc.

The thing that will make UMDs safe is that it is a proprietary format and that there isn't a readily available PC drive that can read and write to the disc.

And vitualis is right on with this one. DVD is encrypted, look how long that lasted. Static encryption doesn't work.

The biggest question for the UMD is what REALLY it is, is it really a new format? or it it say a mini dvd in a special case?

This is hardly anything for the groups to worry about, just something else they'll have to keep them entertained by. It'll make the competition all the better. :P
