  3. I always strip the menu off of my backups - I want to put the disc in and just start watching the movie. I leave the AC3 6ch track and the DTS track if available. The older Toshiba SD1600 in the bedroom is connected to a TV only and downmixes the AC3 6ch track. I am able to choose either track with the Panasonic S35 connected to the HK DPR1001 in my movie room. That's how I do it.

    Hello,
Just make sure you don't copy JUST the dts track. If you do that you'll ONLY be able to play it through your dts receiver. If you have both the 6ch ac3 AND 6ch dts you'll be just fine.

Without menus all you have to do is use the audio button on the remote to switch back and forth. Like it was mentioned earlier, the ac3 will be downmixed to 2ch if you just watch it on a tv. The pc will be fine with ac3 only but WON'T play the dts unless you have a DTS enabled soundcard.

P.S. If you want a better picture use just the 6ch ac3 track. Having both the ac3 and dts will take up more room at the cost of picture quality (though personally I find it to be minor- unless your using a hdtv, you might notice it then)

I also wanted to mention along the lines of choosing DTS at the expense of video quality, that there are atleast a few movies that I know of, that you can keep both the DD 5.1 and the DTS streams without any compression at all. So far, you can do this with The Fast & The Furious, Daredevil, The Butterfly Effect. This is why it's good if the maker's put lots of extra's and junk on the same disc as the movie, because then, they don't use such a high bitrate for encoding the movie.
