I'll be buggered if I can figure out this SSC utility program.
Looks great, but no amount of reading the help files can make me understand the function.
I'm getting low in my initial, official epson cartridges and would like to do something with the utility to make sure the printer uses all teh ink, and Epson doesn't **** me and say it's empty when it's not.
I have some refilled cartridges to install although these are already chipped.
Is there something I should do with the utility to ensure I get the most from the cartridges?
Thanks
Will

try to use the freeze ink level function. it won't let the ink meter drop anymore. It'll just keep printing until the ink completely runs out. that utility never did much for my R300. Its a bit dangerous to use. tried to use it to move the print heads out and it almost stripped the belt in the printer. I can't recommend using it for much.

I remember reading when you first insert cartridges you lose a shitload of ink, is this everytime or just the first time you set up the printer?
I returned my tray last week, damn frickin thing never would insert on it's own and always needed a little nudge and plus, the clear plastic guides/nibs on the front were tearing.
Got my replacment yesterday and all is well, even loads automatically

it does waste a lot of ink. I can understand it having to fill the print heads the first time you put a set of carts in. But when you put a new cart in all the others drop by about 1/10 of the meter for no apparant reason. pure crap designed to make you pay more for ink. Honestly wish I'd never bought the printer. It does pretty good at what its meant for but the end cost with the ink being so high just makes it not worth it to me. I've been using generic carts with mediocre results so I'd rather stick with OEMs. Also I hate that once the drip pad gets full you have to take it to an epson service center to have it replaced and the waste ink counter reset. the whole design of it seems to be a "buy it cheap, spend a fortune in maintainence" setup.

so far as I know a lot of their models are like that. I haven't run into it yet myself but I've heard some complaints about it on the boards here. sometimes when you use generic ink the printer insists on doing a full cleaning more often. Evidently that fills up the waste pad quickly and you have to take it to be replaced and have the counter reset or it doesn't print anymore. check out some of the other topics for more details on that.
