I can play the files in Video Lan, and I know I have the codecs to do it. The files play in Video Lan with no problem but Video Lan does not have the features I want. Anybody know what my problem is? I also still get green artifacts in my video, it happens alot more in black than anything else. Thanks.

You could try to update your codecs.

    Get the latest versions

Divx is now up to 5.2

    Xvid is 1.0.1

  3. VLC uses it own codecs (vs directshow codecs which are requried for players like WMP). Just because VLC plays it doesn't mean that you have the corrisponding directshow filter for it.

BTW I would suggest FFDshow for MPEG4 playback.

    see my previous post

You probably need to upgrade your xvid codec.

  6. nope, ffdshow plays Xvid 1.0.1 just fine, are you sure it is not just a bad encode?

Also, are you playing it back via TV-OUT? For some reason I have noticed low overall playback quality via TV OUT (other than just the regular low quality I mean) it shows up as random color in the dark areas of the movie, but isn't present when you watch on the monitor.

I already have the newest codec and the artifacts are constant no matter what format the video is in. Divx, xvid, avi, mpg, wmv, rm, anything. They appear on my monitor and my tv. I use the ATi DVI to Component video adapter to video out from my computer. But either of them are bad.

  8. Don't know what it is, but it is not a codec problem then because those various formats use different codecs. Possibily your renderer or hardware.

Just to verify, it happens with different videos, not just the same video you converted to those different formats? (So you can rule out that particular video being bad.)

Also, you didn't install any codecpacks did you?

yeah it's every video i play, wheather i encoeded or d/l it. Even in game videos do it. And yes I installed Nimo.

  10. Do a search here and the forums at www.doom9.org on"Nimo Codec Pack"

Most likely that is what is causing it, from what I have read about codecpacks. At the worst you may have to reinstall the OS to fix it.
