I have a new PC but want to keep my old one as well. I'd like them to share one monitor with a switch to change the screen from one desktop to another. Is this possible?

    Possible - YES

You need a KVM switch , although it may even be just as cheap to buy a second monitor.

Another option would be to run a simple network using crossover cable.

  6. Or try VNC Which allows you to use 2 computers via one mouse, keyboard and monitor. Works a treat used it for over 2 years now.

I just use remote desktop to use my second computer, no need for extra parts.
