I have seen nothing but positive for both of these, those of you who burn alot more than me which do you feel are better?
Also anyone know why TYG01 have all zeros in the TID code on smartburn? Every other media I checked has some sort of code except TY?
Thanks to everyone on this sight, I have learned alot the past 8 months. Most importantly good media = good burns.

Maxell 4x DVD-R discs (MXLRG02) and Taiyo Yuden 4x DVD-R discs (I've seen more than one MEDIA ID code) are both top notch.

I prefer Taiyo Yuden but must admit I mostly buy Maxell since I tend to buy small batches on the retail level which makes Maxell cheaper than the FUJI branded Taiyo Yuden discs.

Please note though that some Maxell DVD-R packages are now saying the dreaded 3 words ---> MADE IN TAIWAN

I do not know and I believe that this has been asked before and no one really knows the answer. It appears that both burn perfectly with no read errors and also seems that there are very few bad disks in a lot from both brands. So I guess we will know in year xxxxx when one of the brand starts to deteriorate faster to know which one really is best.

This goes for the made in japan maxells and not the ritec made in tiewan maxells that have started creaping up

  4. Taiyo Yuden, but the difference in my own burn results between them and Maxells that are made in Japan is probably miniscule.

    When I don't need bulk, I buy Maxells at Wal-Mart. $15.84 for a 10-pack of jewel-cased Japanese discs. Otherwise, it's 100-pack TYs for me.

Taiyo Yuden does give lower error reports than Maxell, if you must be technical. And as indolikaa stated it is miniscule.

You wouldn't go wrong with either brand.

I choose Maxell, because I like their Printables much, much, much, much better than Taiyo Yudens. If I need silver tops, I'd get Taiyo Yudens over Maxell, because the price difference isn't large enough to matter.

So buy which ever is cheaper and easier for you to get your hands on

I forgot to mention that RIMA.COM always has the best price on Taiyo Yuden media.

For instance a 100 pack of plain top 4x DVD-R discs are down to $0.88 each or $88.00 per 100 pack.

That would be all I would buy IF I had $88.00 extra laying around which I often DO NOT have

I've had more bad TY than MXL, but I can still count my coasters on my fingers. I've been using these BOTH since they came out.
