NOOB/Newbies Beware

I have not posted much here because I have been able to learn much of what I need by reading the guides and looking through the forum for things that might help me in this crazy hobby that we all are a part of. The few times I have asked a question I have received very good imput and have been fortunate to be able to help others out a few times as well. The "noobs" that ask stupid questions usually are looking for a quick and easy fix and then move on to other things. The new people that are truly interested in video as a hobby are going to do their homework before asking questions and they are going to ask questions that do not insult the intellgence on the members of the forum that have put in all the hard work to learn their craft. Video capture and editing takes a lot of work and a sizeable investment to do it right. If I want to do something easy I just transfer to my set top DVD recorder and I'm done. If I want a finished product that I want to show my family and friends and be proud of I put the time, effort, and do my homework to make sure I do it right. The best part of this forum is if I don't have the answer I can search, read guides, and ask questions to get the information I need.

I never got flamed when I first popped in here either. But then again the first thing I did was check out some guides, tried some things and when I had an issue I posted specific questions that I could describe in a fairly intelligent manner. It's pretty simple, you don't ask intelligent people stupid questions (thats different than ignorant questions d_believer). It is no different that a college student asking his Calculus professor "um...ok, I'm not very good at the addition part of math, can you help me with it?" Some professors would just say "NO", while others would say something like "OK, here's what you do. Go back to your high school and demand you money back because they didn't produce a student, they produced an idiot."

~I've actually been present when a professor ripped into a student like that. Freshman year, Calculus 1. In the problem (x + 2)(x + 1) = x^2 + 3x + 2.....she asked "where did you get the 3x from?" to which the professor explained how he got it (duh)...but then she disagreed with him...and he put her in tears almost instantly But damn, if multiplying binomials is that challenging, I'm pretty sure the rest of Calc. 1 will prove most difficult.

The video world is no different. Anyone who has spent the kind of money it takes to do this hobby and has to ask "what's an AVI file" deserves to be flamed.

Actually, Northcat was a very quiet member for a long time. Don't know what brought him out of the woodwork. I know the first time I said 'hello' was when I read his 'Save yourself the frustration...' signature.

Hell, I didn't even really get flamed when I posted "Newbies, Foul-moths, and Flamers" as my first post, and that post was just begging for it.

Why it reared it's ugly head again, I'll never know, but now, it seems more like a test post. People are putting just about everything in there!

Let me clue you in "HAMP"...in the beginning I did not get flamed because I didn't ask stupid questions. 99% of all the people in all the world are willing to help you if you yourself have some clue as to what the **** you are doing. But if you have no clue and you ask then you will be met with rejection and sometimes ridicule. A blind retarded turtle tyring to become a seeing eyedog is as pointless you trying to develop a personality or some of these people learning video.

My post count is low by some standards, I am sorry that you find my count objectionable...let me help you save some time....

I knew a bit before I came here. I just came here mostly to post what media works with my burners and what doesn't. along with what media works in DVD players best and what makes the best dining coasters. I have a bunch of coasters I'm willing to sell bulk and cheap.

I also knew a little bit before coming here. I had made videos and things but only in the AVI or MPEG format. Never burned a DVD or VCD before coming here...so I wasn't a complete Noobie...but burning and backing up is the reason I came here. But now that I know how to do it...I don't do much of it anymore I still author DVDs but I don't back up any retail DVDs.

Since you are not a recognizable member of the PW forum...er...I mean OT forum...you are still a relative newbie so to help you out here's a list of some sick, disturbed people around here.
