Got a problem. Don't know yet if it's related to directx 9.0c but I wanted to give everyone a 'heads up'.
Med long story
I had some problems trying to rip a dvd with shrink 3.14. I thought it was scratched and tried dvd decrypter - didn't work. Downloaded ifo edit. Don't ask why. Still didn't work.
Moved on. Next day. Installed ea sports baseball. And a casino game. Saw that direct x 9.0c was available. I have a 6800gt, so I downloaded and installed it.
Tried ripping a copy of another dvd using shrink. Started to see artifacts in the analysis preview. Afterwards I saw a stutter playing back the file and gave up looking for the artifacts because of this additional problem. Tried another dvd. Same problem.
Moved the burner over to my backup pc. Analysed and ripped perfectly. That system has the same version of shrink and directx 9.0b.
I've gone back and did a system restore on the pc with directx 9.0c. It now shows 9.0b. But I'm in the middle of creating some backups on the old system so I can't move the burner back just yet.
At this point I know it's not the burner. It will probably be tomorrow by the time I get a chance to see if system restore fixed the issue. If it did then I feel pretty sure 9.0c has a conflict with that version of shrink.
I never did update shrink because I've really had no issues until now.
Anyway. Heads up.

I hooked up the burner to the restored pc and ran shrink. The analysis was much better - like 98% better - but not perfect. Hard to say if something didn't get corrupted and not reversed.
That percentage is not a guess. I counted the artifacts I saw the first time and compared it to this time.
Unfortunately the burnt DVD still has a stutter so some corruption has remained. Time for a pain in the ass reformat.
I won't say this definatively links the problem to 9.0c, but since the baseball and casino program are installed on the old pc that eaves ifo edit and directx 9.0c as the only recent changes since the program last worked perfectly.
I'll try burning the backup on the old pc tomorrow and see if there is a stutter on it,but the backup played perfectly on the pc so I doubt it will.
