I just edited a 30 minute project in vegas using quite a bit of track motion and keyframing with several layers of video. It took my PC 9 hours!! to render an AVI file at 6 Gb in size.
On view in Windows Media Player the footage is poor with a checker-board like distortion when the camera pans sideways and other movement.![]()
In Vegas 'project properties' I have the following:
Motion Blur Type - Gaussian
Deinterlace Method - Blend Fields.
Is the fault anything to do with these settings?

why are you de-intelacing fields?
what are you rendering to ? @ what frame rate ?
when you step through the timeline in best mode , do you see any problems? if not , it is your rendering or project settings.."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
I'm quite new to Vegas and DV in general, I use Vegas because I like how it's good from beginners through to pro.
1. I don't really know why there is a deinterlace option selected, maybe its from standard settings. Do I need to select another option here?
2. I'm using Vegas to render from the Veg Project File to AVI, from there I use TMPEGEnc to render to Mpeg.
3. I'm not by the PC at the mo, so I don't know what framerate is selected, any suggested?
4. The footage was very 'jumpy' when viewing on the timeline through the preview window in Vegas. I put this down to possible lack of RAM (512) and a 1.7 P4 speed.
Do you have any suggestions on better settings?

1. Don't deinterlace unless you want progressive output. Set it None
2. Why ? Vegas ships with the Mainconcept encoder, which is much faster than tmpgenc, and for my money, handles interlaced source much better. You can output directly to DVD compliant streams ready for authoring.
3. Your frame rate is dependent on whether or not you are outputting for PAL or NTSC. The rate should be set by the output template by default.
4. Try rendering out just a small section containing a pan, and burning it to DVD RW so you can see it in your TV. Interlacing can look pretty bad on a PC monitor, especially during fast pans, however it may well look fine on your TV. -
Cheers for that bit of advice. So am I actually creating and AVI when I really do not need to? Do I use Vegas to render straight to Mpeg?
