  1. I tried to find the guide or any info on converting .dat files to DVD but had no luck. Can someone please direct me or help me in any way?

    Thanks, thanks, thanks.

  2. I'm trying to use the one
"How to convert VCD/SVCD To DVD using TMPGEnc"
but it instructs to first find the folder mpegav that the file is in. I cannot locate that b/c all I have are the actual .dat files of CD1 and CD2.
So then I thought that I could skip that step, thinking that this was the actual file that they want for Step 3, which is the step that takes the .dat file into TMP +.
BUT, when I opened TMP + and tried to place the file as the "video source", I couldn't "see" the file. ie, I couldn't pull it up into TMP+ program.
    Any thoughts?

rename file to .mpg instead of .dat.

or use vcdgear to convert from .dat to .mpg

  4. Download and install VCDGear.

Choose dat -> mpeg in the dropdown list under ' Extraction/Conversion '.
Check the box says ' Fix Mpeg Errors '.
Click ' Load ' and navigate to the source file. Select the destination folder
    with the second popup window.
    Click ' Start '.

After all is done, you'll have a Mpeg file and then can be loaded onto TMPGEnc.

  5. Sorry to belabor this but am still stuck.

I renamed the .dat file to a .mpg file of the same name. TMP+ still didn't recognize this file so I renamed it back and opened VCDGear.

I got this error message: Could not locate MPEG stream.

I checked the "Fix MPEG errors" to no avail.

Thoughts? Did I mess anything up by changing the file BACK to a .dat file after having renamed it to an .mpg?

  7. Okay, here's what i have. I hope a Moderator looks at this first and screens it if needs to. sorry if I write something I shouldn't. come to think of it, maybe I'll PM the mod first.

    Anyway,

Movie CD1.dat. On properties, it says it's a .dat file and it is 708 MB.
Movie CD2.dat. On properties, it says it's a .dat file and it is 715 MB.

    Thanks.
PS. Didn't know how to PM the mod first and I changed the file name anyway.

  8. Catherine,

I'm sure one of the moderators will come to your rescue sooner or later.
( When they finished screening all the posts. )

But while you're waiting, why don't you try this:

Rename the files to .mpg extension.
Feed them to VCDGear, only this time use the mpeg->mpeg in the dropdown
    list. See if it works.
Looks like those are not DAT files, but Mpeg2 files....

  9. Okay, sorry for the delay in getting back to you to tell you how it's going.

Well, I putzed (sp?) around with those files for long time and then did a search for other files of this kind and found this: (I'm frequently converting or changing something on the file and occasionally it will be stored or saved inadverdently somewhere I don't realize). Anyway, I found the original files, and lo and behold, ran it through AVIcodec--->

    Filename: Movie CD1.mpg Movie CD2.mpg
    V. codec name MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD) MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD)
    Audio codec name Mpeg1 a. Layer1 (0xc0) Mpeg1 a. Layer2 (0xc0)
    V resolution 480 * 576 480 * 576
    V bitrate 2556 2556
    V framerate 25 fps 25 fps
    V aspect ratio 16:9 16:9
    V. size 1.9 GB 1.8 GB

So, looks like regular SVCD right? And it should burn easily via Nero, right? But it doesn't. It's too big. But does burn in Nero Vision Express. So, I saved it to HD prior to burning it, to make sure it looked right, and now when I open the file, it opens as an image in Isobuster---and NOW, NOW, NOW I have the ORIGINAL file, AVSEQ1.DAT that was needed at the very start of this topic!

Am I going in circles or what?! Help. I'm not really as stupid as this post seems to present me as, really!
