  1. Hi...I have a video file. It is an .avi file. It plays 100% fine when I am watching it as is on my PC (as the .avi form it came in). I did not change/alter the file in anyways. Now I want to make it a VCD (a process I have completed MANY times).

I opened this file in TMPGEnc and recieved the error message:
File can not open, or unsuported.

Then I tried converting it in EO Video, and EO Video crashed.

Then when I tried to load it in VirtualDub, I got the error message:
Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'MP42' (Microsoft High-Speed MPEG-4 V2). VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.

Then Just for fun...I put the video in Gspot and it told me:
    Stream Type and A/V Interleave
    Type: OpenDML AVI
    IMRR: n.s.
    I/L: Not Supported.
    Comments:
JUNK (ASCII in junk chunk) VirtualDub build 18121
JUNK (ASCII in junk chunk) release
In the video section, under codec:
    4CC: MP42
    Name: S-Mpeg 4 version 2
Stat: 3 compatible codecs installed (ffdshow Mpeg-4 video decoder, Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Decompressor, Mpeg4 Decoder DMO)
    Runtime: 00:59:14 (88,858 fr)
    x:y: 384x288 (1.33:1) [=4:3]
    Bitrate: 1028 kb/s
    FPS: 25.003
    Qf: 0.372 bits/pixel
    Audio:
    Name: PCM Audio
    Stat: PCM: no codec required
    Bitrate: 353 kb/s, monophonic
    Fs: 44100 Hz

I don't really know too much about that stuff in Gspot, I just did it so maybe it could help you help me.

I just need to get this file to VCD. If I need to get it to another video format first, than to VCD...thats fine if thats what is necessary. Please lemme know.

  2. you may need to find that specific codec....which is the MPEG42 I believe. Try a google search. You'll probably have to wade through the microsoft site....allow a decade or so for that.

Once you find it and install, it's quite possible that the video could be converted by using VDub to frameserve to TMPGEnc.
