  1. I downloaded a movie from some ftp server. It was made of 49 files (.rar, .r00 - r47, each 15000000 bytes). But the first file (.rar) is damaged (zero length). So I downloaded a cca first 50 MB of the whole movie from P2P . (Normally I don't use P2P because of the firewall). Is it possible to somewhat reconstruct the whole movie ? WinRAR utility cannot do anything without the first file. I tried to compress the 50MB file and thus recreate the first part of the archive, but was not successful. Any hope for me ? Thanks.

Maybe try re-downloading the file, or find a server that has the same files, otherwise I would guess your SOL.

  3. Re-downloading doesn't help. The file has zero length already on server. There's no other place where to find it (by Amun ftp search). I was hoping for some WinRar tweaking. I see (by clicking at) that every .rxx file has stored information about the former file (full length, remaining legth, filename and CRC). But CRC seems to be the problem - it differs when compressing the former file and when compressing the partial 50MB file. That's why my created .rar doesn't fit.
Never mind. I won't be for the first time, when I download something and cannot use it.

30 to 50 percent of the SVCD movies on the file sharing scene have missing or currupted rars. I find that Xvid movies have a much lower rate of missing or currupted rar files and programs are even less of a problem. I never could understand it but redownloading never helps really. I feel bad for the people spending days to get these 4 gig DVD5 movie image files that are out there now only to find a missing rar. It kinda makes you want to just go out and buy the darn movie ya know what Im sayin.

Are there any par or par2 files? If so you can reconstruct missing files with those.

That would take too much work. People don't like work, they like the other crap.
