  1. I have a video (2.5 hours in duration). My DVD player will not play it and the quality is not very good. I want to convert it so I can watch it on the DVD player and hopefully improve the quality a bit.

    GSpot provides this information:

    Video codecs: XVID
    size: 640X426
    Bitrate: 433 k/s
    FPS: 29.97

Even if I cannot improve the quality I would like to convert it to DVD-friendly.
Can anyone point me to a tutorial/software that will do this?

    Thank you.

No matter what you do, you can't increase the quality of your output(with the exception of filters and things like that in virtualdub) but here's a guide to help you convert it to a dvd.

The method I use for XVIDs is TheFilmMachine program. You just need a encoder like CCE or Procoder (It also has an internal encoder) and you input the file and it outputs DVD compliant video folders which can be burned with Nero or others. The quality won't improve, but it is quick and easy.
