I'm trying to free up some space on my hard drive, and would like to archive some files to a CD. The folder contains a VIDEO_TS folder with the resulting DVD files. Everytime I try to do this in Nero I get an error message that I can't do it because the CD doesn't like the DVD files.

I'm not concerned about being able to play the files in a DVD palyer, but instead want to be able to transfer the files back to my PC from the CD at a future time.

    Any ideas?

It is not possible because a cd only will hold at most 800Megabytes of data.

A dvd holds a little over 4 Gigabytes of data.

    A dvd holds more.

    Burn to dvd

You won't be able to have the whole DVD (menus, buttons, extras), but you can encode the mvie to Xvid or Divx. It will then fit on the CD (mostly) retaining the original quality.

Like Supreme said, you would need to encode it in divx or xvid, but you will lose the extras.

When you encode it, it should fit on a cd.

Actually these files that I want to transfer to the CD only add up to 500 MB of data (there's no menu or anything, it's just MPEG files).

I tried .RAR the parent folder and adding that but Nero still recognized it as a DVD video. I want it to just recognize it as 500MB of data

  6. If Nero is fighting you about the Video_TS folder, You can just save all the files within the Video_TS folders, the Vobs, ifos, etc, as data, but not save the folder itself. You can re-create a generic video-ts folder later. Just drag the files over into a data disc template (preferably Iso/udf hybrid format.)

Or stop fighting nero and use Nero's mini-DVD template (in Nero 6) That way you save all your data and you get a playable mini-DVD (that is, DVD structure on a CD). (Playable on computer and a few stand-alone players.) Just drag all your files into the Video_TS folder on the template. By the way, the file structure of DVD is just data format in an iso/UDF hybrid format. So a mini-DVD stores it as data while making it playable as well.

  9. One more advantage of making a real mini-DVD is that you can then use DVDshrink to easily assemble all your mini-DVDs into a full DVD by using its re-author feature.

    Worked like a charm!

Used Nero's MiniDVD feature and was able to get all my files onto a CD for archiving!

    Thanks
