  1. Ok converting a avi file to vcd using TMPGENC. When it gets done , plays perfect but there is no sound. So used VirtualDub to extract the audio. Try TMPGENC again only this time use the .wav file as the audio source that I extracted using VirtualDub. Now plays perfect again and has the sound only the freaking audio is out of sync!! Beyond frustrated!!!! Why is it sometimes when you convert over the audio is lost and other times it is not? How can I get the audio in sync?

The reason tmpgenc loses sound is that it screws up on vbr mp3 and by extracting it to full wav that fixes the problem, one other problem with this type of audio is when you extract it sometime the audio changes so its no longer the same length as before and the only way to fix it is by using a sound editor such as goldwave and then stretching or shrinking the running time to match the video.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

  3. Thinks, that clears it up! Ill try to fix it with goldwave but is there anything else besides tmpgenc that people use to convert avi to vcd?

  4. Well actually as John0 mentioned, Tmpgenc has problem with VBR audio which is Variable Bit Rate. It may handle some audio formats. But I have learnt over the time that it is always recommened to extract the audio as 16-bit, 44.1 KHz WAV before you use TmpgEnc for encoding. And yea.. Since the final step of encoding is best done by TmpgEnc, thus this is the best way to deal wit hthe situation. I hope I have answered your question.

  5. Before you jump onto Goldwave, did you extract the wav with virtualdub with Audio -> Full Processing Mode enabled? If you didnt do that Virtualdub will rewrite the mp3 with CBR headers, and that will cause a BIG desync.
