  2. You'll need a video out on the video card or if you're video card is DVI-out capable and your TV accepts that, you could use that.

The big thing is VIDEO-OUT of the PC card.

One thing you will find with using a TV as a monitor is that text is very hard to read. Shouldn't bother you in the short term as long as you stay away from text programs. TV and computers handle video in different ways.

Yeah, as long as you stay away from text programs. You don't really need to read the labels under all those icons on your desktop, do you? Don't need all that text on the Start bar either. Menus -- who needs to read those things! Web browsing? No text there!

Unless your TV has RGB inputs you won't be happy running it as your primary display.

  5. With flat - panel monitors out now I think regular monitors are getting cheaper and cheaper.

Check out Geeks.com for some good deals.

  6. Do any video cards support high resolution outputs? When ever I hooked up my TV to my pc I couldnt read any of the icons. I would go with the above suggestion and find a cheap CRT for around $50.
This plan is so bad, it must be one of ours.

Ati sells an adapter for $30, that converts VGA or DVI to component video out. It supports SDTV, EDTV, and even HDTV. So if you need to use your TV, that is the best way to go.

It is my understanding that it is not a question of resolution but that TVs and Monitors use different technology.

I think a monitor can be a fair TV but TVs make lousy monitors.

Geeks.com has been having midnight madness sales lately so check visit them after midnight. If you don't find any monitors on sale you can still get 10% off by using this code:

Computer Geeks: 10% off no min (Not valid with AMEX or Discover card purchases or on items marked as "GEEK Special!")
    Code: DEALNEWS
