    I have a friends computer I'm trying to set up for her to play svcd. I'ts a new toshiba laptop and came with windvd. When I insert an svcd, windvd comes up and as soon as it goes to play it immediatly stops. wmp just sits there forever saying connecting. I have tried several svcd's that work fine on my computer. DVD's play fine btw, with a great picture and sound, so I would think an mpeg codec is installed properly. Any suggestions?

    try play with media player classic or videolan.
