  1. Hi!

    I have two questions.

First one is about upmixing from 2.0 to 5.1:

A couple of months ago, I read some posts about upmixing from 2.0 to 5.1, and someone mentioned really good software that takes 2.0 CD stereo material and automatically mixes it for surround sound (I even remember someone saying they remixed a CD this way with this software and that they were amazed with the result).
Does anyone know what I'm talking about (software, or original topic post-wise), because I don't have time to research this BB's post archives to find the topic/posts

If not, what is the best way to upmix for surround sound with (preferrably) free audio software?

2nd question: This also has to do with upmixing, but on a slightly different note...

I have a bootleg anime DVD that I bought from Hong Kong two months ago, almost, and I want to remake this DVD and upmix the audio track for 5.1. The only problem is, is that of the audio tracks on this DVD are of mono quality, despite being encoded as Dolby Digital 2.0.
Technically, I know that upmixing mono material for 5.1 is practically impossible to do, but the only reason I am asking about methods for upmixing monaural tracks to 5.1 is because I know that about half of the Elvis Presley 30 #1 Hits DVD-Audio tracks are mono, yet they have been remixed to a good result for 5.1, so that's what's driving my question to being asked.

What methods are there to remix mono tracks for 5.1 in the way I want: the main action in the front, with "ambience" in the rear (echos, sound effects, etc.) if possible?

    Hello,
Quick note, don't mention "bootleg" next time. No need to.
