  1. Ok well here goes...

I've had my 12x DVD-ROM for about 5 months now. It's been perfect for me, with nary a hitch. The other day, I got the Episode 1 DVD in the mail. Great, right? Well, I decide to try out the player that was included on DVD Disc 1, named Interactual Player. I installed it, tried it, and it sucked really really bad. So, I go back to PowerDVD 3.0, and its not working to well either. It tells me that DMA needs to be enabled. So, I enable DMA through PowerDVD's little app, and it prompts me to reboot. I do so. After reboot, the same screen that had prompted me to enable DMA pops up again, and the box that I had checked BEFORE reboot to enable DMA for my DVD-ROM drive is now unchecked. WTF?

I have uninstalled InterActual Player, and deleted all registry entries related to it. I did the same with PowerDVD and reinstalled it but the problem remains.

Also, I am using WindowsXP Professional, but this isnt an OS problem. I'm not sure what it is. But I can't figure out what in the hell is going on so any help would be appreciated.

  2. Check in Windows Device Manager that DMA is definitely not enabled for your DVD drive and that its not just a buggy PowerDVD error message.
If DMA cannot be enabled in Device Manager, try checking your jumper settings and cable connections on your drives. I had to set my Pioneer DVD to Master on its own seperate IDE channel to get DMA to work. If both your DVD and hard drive have to be on the same IDE channel, make sure the jumpers are set to Master on your hard drive and Slave on your DVD. Sometimes they are set to "Cable Select" which is supposed to be an automatic setting but sometimes causes problems in my experience.

  3. Yeah I opened up the PC and checked that. I've got the CD-ROM and DVD-ROM on one IDE cable, with the DVD-ROM set as the master. It was working fine before with this setup so I assume its a software problem.
