  1. Hi

I have a Panasonic NV-VHD1 combi DVD/VCR player. There is a DVD inside the machine is plays perfectly; however, when I try to eject the disc, I keep getting a message on the player saying 'Locked'. There is a child lock available with this player, but I have checked that this is not set to 'On'.

I've also tried disconnecting the player and restarting is, but this makes no difference Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Many thanks

Probably a worn belt or jammed gear, depending on what type of drive your player uses. First thing to try, push in firmly on the front of the loading drawer while the eject function is running (ususally the player will show "eject" on the screen or display while this is happening). Sometimes that will free it up, just press in on it several times while it is supposed to be ejecting to see if it'll pop open.

If that doesn't work, you'll have to open the cover and take the drive out and manually turn the eject gear or idler wheel. Then replace the belt, assuming it is belt drive (most are). If you don't want to replace the belt, you can use isopropyl alcohol and clean the belt with a cloth, and clean the pulley it goes to as well as the motor pulley. That'll work for a while, but the belt should be replaced if you're going to keep the unit.

It's also possible that it could be an electronic problem if it says "locked" instead of "eject". I'm not familiar with Pana units, so the only thing I can suggest is trying what I mentioned, then do a google search for the problem with the model # you mentioned and use the keyword "locked".

    EDIT:
I got this from a website while looking around. You could try it.

    The ‘LOCKED’ Problem
Player locks up, displayed ‘LOCKED’. Pressing STOP on the unit and POWER on the remote locks and unlocks the tray. Turning power off/on or unplugging the machine may unlock it.
